SUN VALLEY HOUSE, Hailey, ID
Located in Hailey Idaho, this house, originally built in the late 1980s as a gambrel roofed kit home, is constructed from a dismantled post-and-beam Pennsylvanian Barn. Sited in a flood plain adjacent to the East Fork of the Wood River, the massive roof of the original house, prevented access to the beautiful views of the river and the natural sunlight that surrounded it.The solution was to add 6 dormers to the roof, while reconfiguring most of the interior spaces. The design replaced every window and door and insulated every wall. While the house is similar to what was there, it was essentially rebuilt to retain its original charm while dramatically improving its overall design, usability and comfort. The interior now opens up to the magnificent site and the overall architecture is clarified. The approval process was complicated because of the flood plain and required a solution which did not increase the footprint.
