This new house on a hilltop in Piedmont, CA, is sited on a pre-existing two-and-a-half story pedestal. With an un-obstructed panoramic view of the entire San Francisco Bay, the site had been created by a previous owner by “filling in” a hillside with a swimming pool and “mermaid” room over a garage. The remaining buildable land became the site for the new home. During the process of construction the existing pool and subterranean rooms were refinished and reworked to compliment the architecture of the new home.
Of note: the interior finish woodwork of the house (trim, ceiling soffits and beams and doors) were constructed from reclaimed Douglas fir, all windows are industrial sash and made from aluminum and all exterior materials are either unfinished or integrally finished so as to require little, if any, maintenance
